Primary Industry

Grow Wellington’s main project in the primary sector is to work with the Wairarapa Regional Irrigation Trust to develop a water harvesting and irrigation scheme which will service the Wairarapa valley.

By storing water in plentiful times of the year and making it available in traditionally dry times, the full productive potential of the region will be able to be realised.

We are also working in conjunction with MAF and other industry bodies on developing strategies to maximize the value to the region of the increasing volumes of timber reaching maturity in the southern North Island.

Discussions are also being held with primary sector research organisations around using the rural parts of the region (Wairarapa and Kapiti) as a site for Research and Development activity. This activity will have an emphasis on developing products to feed into our active Food and Beverage sector activity.

Water... Water... Everywhere
Water... Water... Everywhere It’s one of our natural resources, but a lack of water in the right place, at the right time, could severely hamper the productive potential of the Wairarapa Valley.
