The Wellington region is home to some of the most superb filmmaking technology and talent on the planet.

Known for The Lord of the Rings trilogy, Wellington has more recently played host to:

  • Feature films: King Kong, Black Sheep, Eagle vs Shark, The Water Horse, Avatar, Second Hand Wedding, Separation City and The Lovely Bones. 
  • Successful television programmes: Sensing Murder, Aftershock, The Insiders Guide to Happiness, Jane and the Dragon, The Investigator and The WotWots.
  • International commercials for Toyota, Beck's, Budweiser, Trainline, US Cellular and Toshiba.

Wellington is also making its mark in the digital media space with productions including Sidhe Interactive's video games ‘Speed Racer’, MTV's ‘jackass the game’ and the release of their own self-published title, ‘Shatter’.

Film Wellington offers a free support service to local and international productions and does everything from providing information and introductions to sourcing locations and issuing film permits.
