Infrastructure Growth
We have three initiatives we have identified as supporting some of the region's key infrastructure. They are about improving broadband use and supply, raising the value of the region's international gateways and adding value to a carbon neutral region.
Broadband
Grow Wellington recognises that if we are inspiring world changing businesses we need to ensure they are connected to the world. Broadband access is a vital part of ensuring the ease and speed of that connection. We are an active member of the region's Broadband Operating Group which was recently successful in having its expression of interest accepted by the Ministry of Economic Development for a bid for funding from the broadband investment fund. Our particular role is to understand the potential demand from business if they were to have better access to high quality broadband infrastructure and supply. We are exploring initiatives to demonstrate, communicate, aggregate and stimulate demand.
International Connectivity
This work is still embryonic and has two aspects. The first is all about providing information and support to Wellington International Airport Ltd and Positively Wellington Tourism as they pursue a long haul flight destination for the region. The second involves working with Centreport as it develops its strategic views for the future and to partner with the port as it integrates with other "path to market" regional infrastructure and to work with them on aggregation initiatives.
Carbon Neutral
It is now widely accepted that carbon neutrality must be a key consideration for any business with internationally competitive aspirations. We have been active in supporting the completion of a feasibility study on regional carbon neutrality and bench marking where we stand now. We are keen to become a carbon neutral enterprise ourselves and want to work with partners to identify and grow the capability of regional carbon neutral businesses and new technology.
